Vintage Runway Bridal Crystal Necklace & Earrings Set ITEM # 61IK911
Wow!
Did you get a chance to see the CBS telecast of Victoria Secret’s 2011 Lingerie Fashion Show?
Vintage "Old Hollywood Glamour" Crystal Cuff Bracelet ITEM #501CR411
I hardly saw the lingerie because I was starring at the amazing jewelry!
The first segment featured brilliant jewels with the light refracting in every direction and with every move.
The Spanish segment was amazing with all of the long fabulous earrings.
What did you think of the segment called “Spell” … capturing the flavor the mystic of “Old New Orleans”? I couldn’t believe all of the black jet and cameos!

A/B Crystal Brooch ITEM #AU161HR1010
My most favorite time of the year is the Christmas holidays.
I welcome the winter cold … and I love the colors!
One of my favorite styles of jewelry is vintage costume jewelry with aurora borealis crystals. This jewelry looks like it is coated in a new frost, and just like ice, it refracts the lights resulting in a rainbow of color.
What is aurora borealis?
First of all, do not be fooled by a seller who claims to have a piece from the Victorian, Edwardian, or Art Deco period. This process was not developed until approximately 1954.
AB (a recognized shortened name), is a special finished which was developed and applied to rhinestones and beads in the early 1950′s. The name was given in reference to the phenomena in the northern regions known as the “Northern Lights”.

In the early 1890′s Swarovski (a well known Austrian company) developed an electric cutting machine. The resulting cut stones showed the dramatic color we have come to expect from this hgh quality manufacturer today.
In the mid 1950′s Christian Dior was looking for a new look to give jewelry to compliment their Paris clothing . . . → Read More: Favorite Christmas Holiday Vintage Costume Jewelry

HOLIDAY GIFT IDEAS
Believe it or not … Christmas is only TEN weeks away, and I don’t know about you, but every year I have the best of intensions. I am going to be organized and shop early and every year there I am at the last minute racking my brain for holiday gift ideas.
I know this is especially hard for men … what gift should I get her? What little extras? For us women, it is not only what gift should I get for him, but what should I get for friends, what should I get for relatives, what should I get for a teacher?
Since this is a jewelry oriented blog, I thought I would take a little side step here and put out some fun and useful holiday gift ideas, and all are just a click away!
What about a beautiful brooch, set of earrings, or necklace? Visit my store at www.rubylane.com/shops/aplaceofdistinction. Can’t decide? What about a GIFT CERTIFICATE. Mardi Gras Masquerade Mask ITEM #J12HTR1111
Eugene Joseff is considered to be one of the premier “Hollywood Jewelry Designers”.
The Prologue of Joanne Dubbs Ball’s book “Jewelry to the Stars”, states, “Once upon a time, in a place called Hollywood, there dwelled an extraordinary sorcerer. His awesome powers were spoken of in hushed, and most respectful, whispers. For in a twinkling of an eye, he transported jewels of great splendor to the magic screens of the kingdom, so that subjects could see, before their very eyes, the adornments of kings and queens, pirates and princes, Ziegfeld stars and Southern bells.
His name was Eugene Joseff, soon to be known as “Joseff of Hollywood ….. creator of ‘Jewelry to the Stars’”.
In his early years, Joseff’s interest in metal, resulted in him taking small items apart, such as jewelry, in order to understand the construction and just “how things worked”.
Having an incredible eye for detail, Joseff was horrified, in 1934, when he viewed a film called “The affairs of Cellini (placed in the 16th century). He saw the amazing detail taken by the costume designers down to the smallest stitch, only to see that the star Constance Bennett, and new . . . → Read More: Joseff of Hollywood – Premier Designer Costume Jewelry

1940's Floral Crystal Brooch Item #41HN510
A couple of recent events have made me realize that a little blogging on caring for vintage jewelry might be in order here.
About a month ago I was invited by a forum to possibly add additional comments to a fellow seller’s remarks regarding the caring for, and cleaning of vintage costume jewelry.
I went to her site, read, and was horrified to see that she recommended filling a bowl with warm soapy water, immersing the jewelry and gently scrubbing, patting dry, and then oiling the tops to “add sparkle”! …. What could I say?!
Then, a few weeks ago, I was contacted by a lady who stated that her mother had recently passed away, leaving here a large collection of signed and unsigned vintage costume jewelry and would I be interested in possibly purchasing some or all of the pieces.
I said “of course”!
I then asked her the general condition of the jewelry, and she immediately assured me that she had been “quite busy cleaning the pieces”.
I asked her how she was cleaning the pieces and she stated that she was “washing them in warm soapy water”. I very calmly asked her . . . → Read More: How To Care For Vintage Antique Costume Jewelry

I think this is one of the most exciting Fall/Winter seasons! There is a little something for everyone!
Les Bernard Gold Ginkgo Bracelet
Metals: Gold, copper, pewter, and gun metal are all the rage this Fall/Winter.
Each of these metals will look fabulous with the Fall/Winter colors of spice, blood red, scarlet, eggplant, forest green, sage, and inky indigo.

Once again, fashion is dictating that one make a statement with one item or item group, ie. … one great bracelet or stack of bracelets … One great necklace or layers… but not necklaces, bracelets and earrings all together!
Each piece of jewelry this fall needs to stand on it’s own. Make it unique … make it stand out!
On the other hand, soft and feminine is big for Fal; and Winter. Lace in white or ivory. You won’t have to be a bride to wear lace or rhinestones!
Fabrics in skin tones … seeming to be barely there.
Jewelry should compliment the tones.

It is interesting to see both the waves of change and consistency in trends!
I have been away from blogging for awhile, and was just getting ready to talk about Fall/Winter trends for 2011 when I looked at my last trend blog in 2010.
Guess what? Layering is still in! Mix lots of chains … add a dynamic brooch.
Additionally, pearls are back! Mix a combination of chains and pearls or just wrap a wonderful long strand of pearls around your neck.
1950's – 1960's Faux Pearl Collar Necklace
A new addition to the Fall 2011 trend scene is statement jewelry … bold, and beautiful!
Look at these fabulolus pair of Larry Vrba runway earrings !
Huge is in … statement is in. … metal is in. Look at this amazing Les Bernard gold ginkgo leaf necklace!
Huge just isn’t you??? There is more … Lace … soft feminine is in! Mix in a besutiful set of pearls, or delicate dangling crystal earrings.
Ethnic beads, art glass and animal motifs are going strong, and “old Hollywood” never dies!
New this year is “back to the 40′s” . Men’s . . . → Read More: 2011 Jewelry Trends and Changes

Like everyone else, I am wondering what to do next in this topsy turvy economy.
I find myself pinching pennies, but want something to lift my spirits.
I want to feel good and look stylish and not like last year’s leftover.
As I have waded through the fashion magazines I realized that the time couldn’t be better when it comes to looking terrific, fashionable, and not spending a lot of the money. The answer is right there in your very own collection … the cost … approximately $2.99 at your local craft store … the solution … two little jumprings.
What are the celebrities wearing? What are the fashion magazines saying for winter and spring fashion? … LAYER. Lots of layering. Make a statement with something BOLD … make a statement with a single great piece rather than a whole set!
